OEM vs. Non-OEM vs Copy screens

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) screens are genuine screens manufactured by Apple, or on behalf of Apple. A genuine display from the original manufacturer may be considered ‘Non-OEM’ if it has been repaired or refurbished. We will still pay for these, depending on their condition (for more information, see our grading information). A “Copy” screen is a non-genuine, third-party or aftermarket LCD. We do NOT pay for these.

How to spot a “Copy” screen

Every copy screen is different, but there are some common things that make a copy stand out immediately. For example, the touch flex on an iPhone LCD (such as on the iPhone 6s) would not be connected directly to the glass, whereas a genuine OEM LCD would have the touch flex NOT connected to the glass. Spotting fakes and copies is an easy task for anybody familiar with what the genuine OEM screens should look like. We will not test any non-genuine displays we receive, instead these will simply be disposed of.
